This recipe comes from my good friend Sandra and has been a staple in our house ever since she first passed it along. Who needs canned sloppy joe when the real thing is so quick and simple to make? Enjoy.

Ingredients:

Who wants canned sloppy joe – when homemade is just as easy?

2 lb. ground beef
1 onion, minced
3 pieces celery (with leaves), chopped
1 sm. green pepper, chopped
1/4 c. ketchup
2 T. brown sugar
1 T. vinegar
1 T. worcestershire sauce
1 T. steak sauce
1/4 t. each: garlic salt, ground mustard, paprika
1 lg. can ground tomatoes (I only use about 3/4 of the can)
hamburger buns

Extra sloppy for my l’il munchkins.

Over medium heat, brown the beef with onion, celery and green pepper. Once brown and veggies are tender, add the rest of the ingredients (include as much or as little of the can of crushed tomatoes depending on how saucy you’d like the sloppy joe to be). Mix well and let simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then spoon onto buns and serve. This recipe freezes well.
