Octavia Spencer is chillingly divine.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Minny, Mom and Juliette Lewis

Plot: A middle-aged woman (Octavia Spencer) ingratiates herself with a group of teens by buying them booze and letting them party at her house . . . but her intentions prove to be sinister.

Tanya’s Verdict: This movie was a pleasant surprise to me. Sure it’s clunky at times, and a tad unrealistic – but all in all, it’s steadily creepy with unpredictable twists and turns throughout.

Ma is a good film to watch with the kids (age appropriate because there is some sex talk) because it appeals to both generations. It’s a classic “the sins of the parents falling on the children” storyline. And even though the plot as a whole is a bit of a stretch, there are realistically frightening elements throughout such as: bullying, peer pressure and the dangers of over-sharing on social media.

  1. I have so many questions! What did she do to her husband, why was her daughter even part of the story, did she have munchausen by proxy??? I swear the last 5 movies I’ve seen have left me with about 500 follow up questions. LOL 😂
