Tanya’s Score: Good-and-a-half*
Rated: PG
Starring: that Chuck guy; that It boy; that “Give us us free” guy
Plot: A 14-year-old boy (Asher Angel) is able to turn into a full-grown superhero (Zachary Levi) by uttering the single word “Shazam“.
Tanya’s Verdict: Anyone who knows me, also knows that I typically stay away from any superhero type of movie – they just aren’t my cup of tea. But this one was generating so much buzz that I had to see it for myself. And I’m glad I did.
In my opinion, it’s not a superhero movie. Well, it is – sort of. Let me explain. Shazam is an action/adventure movie. It’s also a family movie. It’s also a drama, a sci-fi, a horror and a comedy. It’s also a superhero movie.
The plot line focusses on family and friendship – the bonds, connections and feelings involved. Wrapped up in a superhero
If you are looking for a film to enjoy as a whole family – then Shazam’s your guy. There are a few scary scenes, but the funny bits and the poignant parts will make it pale in comparison.
