A bland movie about horrific events.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: 18A

Starring: a bunch of Norwegians

Plot: A straight-forward look at Norway’s worst terrorist attack occurring on July 22nd, 2011.

Tanya’s Verdict: This Netflix original movie is horrifying to watch – because of the subject matter. In case you don’t remember, a monster (I cannot type the word “man” here) set off a bomb outside of Oslo’s parliamentary building in order to distract from his more sinister plot – where he posed as a police officer in order to gain access to a politically-themed youth summer camp located on an island. He then methodically began assassinating innocent people – most of them teenagers. By the time he was captured, 77 people were dead. 22 July is a straight-forward, documentary-styled account of the attack and aftermath concerning the victims, their families as well as Norway’s political system and the lawyers involved. Even so, the filming is bland, even dull at times. It’s as if director Paul Greengrass decided the subject matter was enough for a movie – and didn’t bother putting in much effort anywhere else. If you are interested in learning more about this attack, I suggest googling it as opposed to watching this two and-a-half hour flick.
