The premise may seem silly . . . but this movie is hauntingly beautiful.

Rated: PG

Starring: An intense, pie-eating Rooney Mara, nice to look at (but not to listen to) Casey Affleck

Plot: A recently deceased man (Affleck) returns as a white-sheeted ghost to the home he shared with his wife (Mara).

Tanya’s Verdict: I was confused at first as well as slightly disappointed. The movie started off with awkwardly long scenes and very little dialogue which made it a bit uncomfortable to watch. But gradually, I began to appreciate the heartbreaking depiction of life, legacy, loss and connection that this movie had to offer. This is one of those films reminiscent of The VVitch and Personal Shopper – if you are hoping for a mainstream thriller, then you will be sorely disappointed. If you are in the market for a unique and unusual movie that will stay in your mind for a time – then this may be it. *Side note: I took my girls (ages 13 and 11) to see this and they both enjoyed it as well. But they are their mother’s daughters and are no strangers to movies that are slow and unusual.
