Quirky. Charming. And darkly humorous.

Rated: PG

Starring: a bunch of Swedes

Plot: Ove is curmudgeon personified – and just when he’s decided to give up on life, stuff keeps happening to alter his carefully laid plans.

Tanya’s Verdict: Based on the 2012 novel of the same name, this movie does well in keeping with the book’s light-hearted and darkly humorous topic. And I’ve only ever said this once or twice before – but I actually enjoyed the movie more than the book. It was funnier and somehow more believable to me and I found the movie characters more sympathetic than the ones in the novel. Both book and movie explore the intricate details in what truly makes  life worth living. If you don’t mind subtitles as well as a quirky main character and a dark storyline with some humour tossed in – then definitely watch this film.
