Rated: 14A
Starring: real life lovebirds Jim from The Office and The Girl on the Train
Plot: A family struggles for survival as blind alien-like creatures hunt and kill all living things that make a sound.
Tanya’s Verdict: No matter what the trailer shows, this movie is not a horror; more of a suspenseful thriller meets sci-fi. As such, there are plenty of jump scares throughout. Matriarch Emily Blunt is especially interesting to watch – her facial expressions convey love, happiness, fear and grief – often in the span of five minutes. There are some sub-titles here and there, but if my eight-year-old son was able to follow the silent conversation, then so can you.
It’s an interesting little movie that is making some big waves right now at the box office. My entire family enjoyed it – me included. That said, it is gimmicky with the whole silent thing – and had that not been the major component to A Quiet Place, the entire movie would have been pretty much run-of-the-mill.
