Sparkly colour did nothing to enhance this snooze-fest.

Rated: PG

Starring: a ditzy Reese Witherspoon, a straight-laced Zach Galifianakis, Oprah

Plot: A young teen girl (Storm Reid), her little brother (Deric McCabe) and a friend (Levi Miller) travel through space and dimensions to rescue her missing scientist father (Chris Pine) – with the help of three mystical beings (Winfrey, Witherspoon and Kaling).

Tanya’s Verdict: The kids enjoyed it. As for me, Reese Witherspoon turning into a flying cabbage and Oprah’s bejewelled lips weren’t enough to keep me entertained. About 30 minutes in, I hunkered down in my theatre seat and took a nice nap – I awoke to the end credits which was just fine by me. While the film’s overall message may have been positive, I thought the characters were ridiculous and the plot line was uninteresting. Wait for this one to come to cable tv.
