Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG-13
Starring: Ethan “Hungry” Hawke, John “Cameo” Malkovich
Plot: In 1972, a Uruguayan rugby team suffers through a devastating plane crash in the Andes mountains and must take extreme measures in order to survive.
Tanya’s Verdict: I saw this amazing true story twice in the theatre back in 1993 and am happy to report that it still holds up to this day. It is an inspirational and at times disturbing account of the will for human survival. That said, this movie is not for the faint of heart: the plane crash is alarming to watch as are several other plot twists throughout.
Re-watching this movie now, as a much older adult than the first times around, with my children in tow – I was really struck by how amazing the story is and by the real-life endurance these individuals demonstrated.
