Full of jump scares – and not half-bad.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: a few vaguely familiar faces; one creepy-ass doll

Plot: When the Warrens’ (Vera Farmiga; Patrick Wilson) leave town on business, the teenagers (Madison Iseman; Katie Sarife) babysitting their daughter (Mckenna Grace) accidentally unleash a trapped demon from the possessed doll Annabelle.

Tanya’s Verdict: As dumb as some of the previous Annabelle films were in my opinion, this one wasn’t half-bad. The plot is typical horror fare – simple and uncomplicated and basically occurs in one location – the Warrens’ house. There are plenty of decent jump scares as well as some light comedy (both intended and unintentional).

Despite being creepy and shiver-inducing, I’m still surprised by the 14A rating. In my opinion, PG-13 would have been appropriate. This is a good one for the kids (who can handle it anyway) and for the grown-ups too.
