Subtly beautiful and mysterious. A good (but not great) movie.

Rated: 14A

Starring: a woman with her grandmother’s name (Natalie Portman), a man with two first names (Oscar Isaac) and a woman with three (Jennifer Jason Leigh)

Plot: Scientists have discovered a strange “shimmer” that appears to be encroaching on land and wreaking havoc with nature – and are determined to investigate the phenomenon.

Tanya’s Verdict: Like anything that Alex Garland does, this movie is subtly beautiful and mesmerizing while also maintaining a cloak of mystery. I enjoyed watching it, found it interesting but at the end of the day – it’s no Ex Machina (2014).
