It wasn’t amazing – but I still liked it.

Rated: PG-13

Starring: frumpy feminist Emma Stone, showy chauvinist Steve Carell and a slew of familiar faces

Plot: The true story of a 1973 tennis match between reigning champion Billie Jean King and chauvinistic hustler and ex-tennis star Bobby Riggs.

Tanya’s Verdict: While the movie wasn’t the most interesting or innovative I’ve seen lately, there was still something about it that worked. Maybe because I didn’t know the details of this real life story or maybe because both Emma Stone and Steve Carell gave captivating performances, my kids and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and in the process learned a lot about the unequal way the world once (and sometimes still does) see men and women.
