This movie’s unspectacular and forgettable qualities far out-shadow its merit.

Rated: PG

Starring: a man with a passing resemblance to Sloth (Jason Clarke), two decidedly unfunny comedians (Ed Helms; Jim Gaffigan) and Kate Mara

Plot: This movie depicts the scandalous 1969 car accident involving Ted Kennedy (Clarke) and the doomed Mary Jo Kopechne (Mara) and how Kennedy dealt with the immediate aftermath.

Tanya’s Verdict: There is merit to this under-the-radar little film – it chooses a less sensationalistic road by steering clear of many rumours and opinions of the time. Instead it focuses on a flawed man who happens to suffer from affluenza (before that was even a thing) who follows faulty guidance of those surrounding him rather than any moral compass. Despite the fact that there were dysfunctional and corruptive forces at play, Kennedy was a grown man who clearly knew right from wrong and had every opportunity to be forthright with the truth regarding the accident and his involvement.

That said, the movie dragged a bit in the middle (I took a nap) and is entirely unspectacular – even forgettable.
