Third time is NOT the charm – it’s time to put Despicable Me to bed.

Rated: G

Starring: The flinty-voiced stylings of Steve Carell, an under-stated Kristen Wiig and “who-the-hell-is-he-oh-yeah-south-park” Trey Parker.

Plot: There are two going on (and both are peppered with plenty of minion antics)- the first revolves around notorious 1980s villain Balthazar Bratt attempting to steal the world’s pinkest and most valuable diamond. The second focusses on Gru’s being reunited with the twin brother he never knew existed – Dru (also voiced by Carell). The two plots converge when Dru and Gru join forces to recoup the stolen diamond. Although the plots thicken when the self-proclaimed villain Dru comes to the realization that his brother Gru is now one of the good guys.

Tanya’s Verdict: A bit of a snooze-fest if you ask me. I found my mind wandering throughout – I was constructing my grocery list, wondering what the weather will be like tomorrow and thinking about an email I have to send rather than paying attention to the ho-hum plot points within Despicable Me 3. Even the 80s music of A-ha, Berlin, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Phil Collins (to name a few) did little to buoy this lacklustre cinematic disappointment. That said – my 7-year-old LOVED it.
