Odd, slow and at times disjointed – nevertheless – still somewhat interesting.

Rated: 14A

Starring: a distant and meandering James Franco, a hard-to-recognize and possibly French, Rachel McAdams

Plot: A novelist (Franco) is involved in a tragic accident – and his grief and how he chooses to deal with it is what seemingly propels him forward within his life.

Tanya’s Verdict: This movie is extremely slow and at times disjointed and odd. Scenes fade quickly, much of the movie’s important events are never quite clearly shown (or explained), heavy-handed music overshadows segments. Nevertheless, it is an interesting portrayal of a specific character (that of Tomas played by Franco) and how he moves through his life despite the tragedy in his past. For viewers who tend to favour fast-paced, dialogue or action-driven films – then this one may not be for you. My girls fell asleep – and I can definitely see how many may find it dull and dreary. I think it was a worthwhile movie to watch – but have no intentions of ever watching it again.
