Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG
Starring: a Macedonian beekeeper, some hilarious kids, a bunch of bees
Plot: A documentary about a female beekeeper living in virtual isolation in North Macedonia.
Tanya’s Verdict: This movie is an interesting one – for so many reasons. It is shot and presented like a fictional story – even though it is a documentary. There are no voice overs or interviews or even anyone on screen acting like there is a camera recording their actions and conversations. For this reason, my kids had a hard time “getting” it.
Also – there is a lot more happening in the plot besides bee-keeping and honey-gathering. Although that is seemingly the gist of the film. The main character, Hatidze, is fascinating – in the way that she views her life, her neighbours, her mother, her bees.
I quite enjoyed it.
