Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG
Starring: Absolutely no one
Plot: This story revolves around Billy (Sebastian Rice Edwards), a young boy growing up outside of London – as he navigates life and death and everything in between during WWII.
Tanya’s Verdict: This movie is so very dated. The acting, the music, even the way it looks – screams vintage 80s. BUT – it’s still a sweet and compelling story about the realities of war and family and life in general.
Even though this one was nominated for a Best Pic Oscar back in the 80s, I never heard of it until it popped up in a list of the greatest movies you’ve never heard of. It sounded interesting so I added it to my list.
Despite the old-fashioned aspects of this film – the story is truthful and real-feeling which makes sense because Hope and Glory is based on director John Boorman’s own experiences during WWII.
I liked it – though my daughter was bored.
