Somewhat interesting – also somewhat bland.

Rated: 14A

Starring: a documentary – so a bunch of people as themselves including actor Mariska Hargitay

Plot: An investigative documentary looking at the number of untested rape kits stock piled throughout the United States.

Tanya’s Verdict: This doc definitely shed some light on how poorly the victims of sexual assault are treated (by police, by lawyers, by medical staff). It also highlighted several specific assault cases and how the testing of the previously forgotten rape kits (in some cases these kits were languishing for decades) led to the incarceration of a serial rapist as well as to some sort of closure for the victims. Still, the way this movie was put together and filmed, it’s pretty standard and bland. I enjoyed watching it as I watched it (as much as you can enjoy a documentary focussing on upsetting subject matter) but will it stand out in my memory a year or two from now? Most likely not.
