Tanya’s Score: Okay*
Rated: PG
Starring: In the order I like them best – Q, Murr, Sal and Joe
Plot: Based on the reality tv show, 4 childhood best friends compete to one-up each other in embarrassing public stunts.
Tanya’s Verdict: My kids are big fans of this show – even I’ve gotten sucked into episodes here and there. The guys are pretty funny and the show can be as well. But at the same time, some gags are funnier than others – which is fine if I can start a new episode on Netflix or fast forward.
But at the movies – I’m stuck. In my opinion, only a handful of the jokes worked and the rest fell flat. Plus, they created a fictional sub-plot revolving around a Paula Abdul concert-related fiasco to hold the show together – which was just silly.
Stick with what works – straight up gags. And forget about any fictional elements. The theatre was actually quite full – and I think as an audience we all wanted the same thing: more funny competitions.
In the end, the kids and I all agreed – the tv show’s much better.
*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
