Rated: 18A
Starring: a bunch of vaguely familiar kid actors, the hot guy from Big Little Lies‘ kid brother as the clown
Plot: A group of misfit kids band together in order to stop the blood-thirsty clown in their town that is hunting and killing children.
Tanya’s Verdict: In my opinion, more drama than horror, this movie did not disappoint me and I was aware of all the hype going in. The story takes its time to unfold, the kids did a good job acting (for Americans) and Pennywise the Clown is scary as all get-out! Despite running a bit long (two hours and 15 minutes), nothing felt unnecessary or gratuitous and the time flew by with plenty of suspense and jump scares. Although fair warning – there is plenty of brutality as well as gore.
The movie felt true to the book while trimming much of the extraneous details. A note to all diehard Stephen King fans, while It the novel relates a story that jumps from past to present – the movie only deals with the past – hence the upcoming sequel to continue the story to its conclusion.
