Rated: PG
Starring: a bit of Silicon Valley, a splash of the Disney Channel, a touch of Love, a whole lotta SNL and Melissa McCarthy
Plot: When middle-aged Deanna (McCarthy) is suddenly dumped by her husband, she decides to join her grown daughter at university – and finish the degree she started before getting married and having kids.
Tanya’s Verdict: Melissa McCarthy is a funny woman – which is why this movie is such a disappointment – especially considering she co-wrote it. The plot is tired and the script is lazy. Most of McCarthy’s dialogue is joke-free – I’m wondering if they assumed words spoken by her would automatically be hilarious? In fact, the only thing I found even remotely funny in this entire movie were the scenes featuring Maya Rudolph.
Steer clear of this one – it’s a dud through and through. Although truth be told, both my girls liked it.
