Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG
Starring: a Canadian Wonder; an It boy; Maya Rudolph
Plot: Two sea monsters disguised as humans (Jacob Tremblay; Jack Dylan Grazer) attempt to fit in with the locals in an Italian seaside town, make a friend and plan on winning the town’s annual race.
Tanya’s Verdict: The thing I most enjoyed about this movie – besides having a heartwarming story about friendship and being light and enjoyable to watch – is that it combines bits and pieces of all my favourite films. My husband pointed out that Luca has been compared to the Oscar film Call Me By Your Name (in a more platonic way) – but I also noticed key elements of Stand By Me, Finding Nemo and Edward Scissorhands.
What I’m trying to say is this: Luca‘s literal “fish out of water” story is a good one for families to watch together and it’s now streaming on Disney +.
