Rated: PG-13
Starring: A blonde and beautiful Jennifer Lawrence, a dark and brooding Chris Pratt, and a shiny and polished Michael Sheen (emulating Lloyd the bartender in The Shining).
Plot: A spaceship carrying 5000 sleeping passengers to a distant planet for colonization experiences a malfunction resulting in the unintentional and 90 years too early awakening of two people.
Tanya’s Verdict: While many critics panned this movie and some even called it disturbing in terms of how it deals with a consensual issue as well as forgiveness – I enjoyed it for what I believed it to be: a love story with a slight sci-fi twist. Although I can see these above-mentioned points (but didn’t really feel this way myself), I found it an entertaining movie for both myself as well as my daughters (there are a couple of mild sex scenes – but nothing too racy, some mild language and some intense scenes). Typically, I am not a fan of the sci-fi movie genre – but I felt Passengers was more of a dramatic romance with a bit of a sci-fi setting. Another sore spot with critics seemed to be the ending – no spoilers here other than to say I liked it just fine.
