Rated: 14A
Starring: a typically intense and quirky Daniel Day-Lewis (in his supposedly farewell performance) as well as a bunch of other Europeans
Plot: It’s 1950s England and Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis) is an acclaimed dressmaker who also happens to be demanding and persnickety. Enter Alma (Vicky Krieps), a young and willful woman who shakes things up both professionally and personally for Woodcock when she becomes both his lover and muse.
Tanya’s Verdict: The plot of the movie is not all that is going on here. In classic Paul Thomas Anderson fashion, the underlying themes portrayed with the characters and their relationships to one another is where the true story lies. The movie is long, intense and strange – very reminiscent to The Master (2012). I found it interesting and a worthwhile watch – but still not sure if I actually liked it.
