Still funny; still sweet; still pretty good.

Tanya’s Verdict: Good*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: a young-old Steve Martin; a young-old John Candy, a few from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986); a few from She’s Having a Baby (1988)

Plot: Two men at odds with one another struggle to make it home from New York to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

Tanya’s Verdict: This comedy gem was playing at our local theatre and since my kids had yet to watch it – I figured it may as well be on the big screen. I’m happy to report it still holds up. The funny parts are just as hilarious as I remembered: when Neil (Martin) and Del (Candy) prepare to go to sleep in the same bed; when a yokel (played with disgusting hilarity by a young Dylan Baker) and his brood pick the two men up from the inn they are staying at to take them to their next destination; when they are driving the wrong way on the highway. The music playing during the more serious moments in the film brought tears to my eyes. My only complaint about this movie was that the momentum seemed uneven at times . . . but all in all – Planes, Trains & Automobiles is a good movie for the entire family to enjoy.
