Tanya’s Score: Okay*
Rated: 14A
Starring: the controversial director
Plot: An examination into the specific crime and public scandal leading to Roman Polanski’s flight from the U.S. in the 1970s.
Tanya’s Verdict: I just didn’t find this doc all that engrossing. It had all the makings to be interesting: a scumbag director with a tragic past, a salacious crime and plenty of public scandal and scrutiny. But for me – it still fell flat.
The most interesting part of the movie is Polanski’s back story and his transformation from tragic victim into narcissist perpetrator. In terms of director Marina Zenovich and the way she focusses on her subject matter – ten years makes a real difference as I thought her 2018 doc Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind was excellent.
