Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*
Rated: 14A
Starring: Todd Anderson and Private Pyle who literally phones it in
Plot: When a true-crime writer (Ethan Hawke) moves his family to a new city in order to write about a grisly crime, he doesn’t realize what he’s getting them into.
Tanya’s Verdict: This movie plays upon every parent’s worst fear – that in a home invasion, they’d be unable to protect their family and their children. And this is where the bone-chilling element of Sinister comes into play.
However, when it comes down to brass tacks, this movie is basically little more than a series of shocking and morbid crimes compiled into a nearly two-hour package. But it spooked me the first time. It’s not nearly as interesting the second time around – but still – not awful.
