Though not a bad movie – Smallfoot fell a tad short of being a good movie.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: PG

Starring: Magic Mike, Mr. Carpool Karaoke, Rocky Blue

Plot: A curious yeti (Channing Tatum) faces banishment after he discovers that humans really do exist.

Tanya’s Verdict: I went into this movie with low expectations – and I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was cute, funny and had positive messages for kids. Here’s what I liked about it: the songs were great – especially James Corden’s riff on Under Pressure – I couldn’t help but tap my toes to it; there are several laugh-out-loud parts especially where the character Fleem is concerned; there are some important morals to be imparted about being true to oneself and opening oneself up to the truth and facing whatever comes from it.

That said – there was a lot I didn’t like including: it was just too long – by about 15 minutes; there are a couple of confusing and complicated scenes – in the beginning when things are being explained about the yeti community and how they operate and again near the end when it’s explained why the yeti community operates the way they do; oftentimes this movie felt extremely heavy-handed (or heavy-footed) in the delivery of its lessons.

For these reasons, I felt Smallfoot fell a tad short of being a good movie – though I didn’t think it was bad. That said – my eight-year-old son did not like it at all.
