Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*
Rated: PG
Starring: the Fresh Prince; Spider-man; Mrs. Maisel
Plot: After the world’s top spy (Will Smith) is accidentally transformed into a talking pigeon, his geeky tech assistant (Tom Holland) is tasked with helping him save the world.
Tanya’s Verdict: There’s a lot to enjoy about this cute little movie: Will Smith is great, there’s plenty of comedy especially in the form of two strange, mute pigeons that become part of Smith’s flock, and I can’t forget about the “no violence” and teamwork lessons this movie works so hard to impart to its young and impressionable viewers. Plus – I heart Ben Mendelsohn – even if it’s only his voice I get to hear.
But if you strip away Smith, there’s really not all that much else to Spies in Disguise. It’s sort of lazy and predictable but again – not awful.
