Entertaining and full of twists.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Mr. Kunis, Rocky Dennis, Earl’s brother and (whatever happened to) Amy Smart

Plot: A young man (Ashton Kutcher) suffering memory lapses during stressful times in his life discovers a way to go back and alter his past which inevitably affects his present.

Tanya’s Verdict: This movie must have done okay with the teen set back in its hey-day as it starred heartthrob of the early 2000s – Ashton Kutcher. Despite being a bit hokey and improbable in terms of plot – it is still a pretty well-crafted storyline leaving audiences on the edge of their seats, wondering what will happen next. Personally, I feel this movie is underrated. We’ve all imagined being able to time travel back to a specific moment in our past to say or do something differently. This movie offers up some thought-provoking messages about doing so; about striving to reconfigure dark moments in the past; and about the inevitable future repercussions of doing so.

Had “The Butterfly Effect” used older, more established, more dramatically-recognized, maybe even A-list actors – I’m sure this movie would be better known now than it currently is.

There was a bit of mild sex stuff here and there, as well as swearing, smoking and a dark undertone concerning child pornography – but in my opinion, this is a great movie for teenagers. Not only is it entertaining but there are twists and turns that will inevitably keep them hooked on the movie as opposed to glued to their phones.
