Tanya’s Score: Great*
Rated: PG
Starring: Hannibal Lecter and Queen Elizabeth
Plot: An elderly man (Anthony Hopkins) becomes increasingly confused by his changing life and starts to doubt everything around him – including his own daughter (Olivia Colman).
Tanya’s Verdict: In my opinion, this movie is close to perfection – it has a simple storyline, wonderful acting, gorgeous music and the way it unfolds keeps you on your toes. The two main characters – father and daughter – are dealing with the same challenge: the father being unable to care for himself. Yet each of them deals with this in their own ways.
There is such palpable empathy arising from both characters – thanks to the heartbreaking portrayals that both Hopkins and Colman bring to the screen.
The Father had me riveted until the very end, with tears in my eyes the entire time. If Tony and Liv win Oscars for this one – they will be well-deserved.
