A character-driven movie with a charming story.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: PG

Starring: Downton Abbey

Plot: Set during the 1940s, an English writer (Lily James) is intrigued by a group of individuals living on the island of Guernsey after one of them finds a book she once owned and contacts her.

Tanya’s Verdict: This is one of the best books I’ve read in the past 15 years so I was eagerly awaiting the movie! A Netflix original, it was pretty good – but of course my opinion is heavily coloured by my love for the novel. The book was character driven – no gimmicks necessary. The same goes for the movie – the story is a charming one with a few twists and turns along the way.
