Slow and steady with no distinct pay-off.

Tanya’s Score: Okay*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: the two biggest stars are Kelly McGillis and Hannah from Girls

Plot: Two hotel clerks (Sara Paxton; Pat Healy) are determined to prove their workplace is haunted before the place permanently shuts down.

Tanya’s Verdict: I’m not a fussy movie-goer – I don’t require bells and whistles or top-of-the-line set design or premium acting or over-the-top effects. I don’t mind if a movie is low-budget or if the acting is slightly stilted. I don’t care if the plot is slow-going. BUT – there needs to be a substantial storyline. There has got to be some sort of pay off in the end. A great example of everything I mentioned above comes in the form of The Blair Witch Project (1999). Not so for The Innkeepers.

While I did enjoy the casual chemistry between the two film leads – this is pretty much all I did enjoy. The jump scares were predictable and lame. The story didn’t go anywhere. And worst of all, the slow and steady build-up fizzled in the end.
