Paper thin plot, uninteresting characters – there’s not much to like about this film.

Rated: 14A

Starring: fake Yankee Kate Winslet, true Brit Idris Elba, a nameless dog

Plot: Two strangers stranded at an airport hire a charter plane which crashes into the mountainous wilderness. They must depend on one another in order to survive.

Tanya’s Verdict: More of a tv movie of the week than a silver screen gem, The Mountain Between Us is a victim of laziness. The plot is paper thin with just as much depth and the characters are uninteresting. To make matters worse, Winslet and Elba have less on-screen chemistry than Tom Hanks and Wilson in Cast Away (2000). Save this one for when it’s available to watch on cable . . . or skip it altogether.
