Tanya’s Verdict: Man – this movie gave me the chills when I first saw it as a kid – and it still does. Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is one of the most sympathetic protagonists ever – and through his eyes, this seemingly simple yet truly complex story unfolds. Issues involving family dynamics, love and friendship, class and courage are all touched upon in this timeless film. And if you think this movie is great – the novel is even better. I think my favourite character is Dallas (played to perfection by suave and swaggering Matt Dillon) – tough as nails on the outside but angry and afraid on the inside. Yet another example of a simple story yielding powerful and heartbreaking results.
