Read the book – but skip the movie.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: 14A

Starring: three Js of Hollywood, the cute guy who knocked up Lena Dunham, the corpse of Rutger Hauer and an unrecognizable Carol Kane

Plot: In the 1800s, the notorious Sisters brothers (John C. Reilly and Joaquin Phoenix) are on the hunt for a gold prospector (Riz Ahmed) who may have revolutionized hunting for gold.

Tanya’s Verdict: This was a great book – written by a Canadian author no less. Yet the movie is a dull dud comprised of lifeless characters and an even lifelesser plot. But not the book – so weird! Great actors starred in this film – yet I believe they may have been heartily miscast. The plot – compelling in book form either didn’t translate all that well to the big screen or wasn’t properly crafted for the big screen. Either way – I was bored. And apparently so was the guy sitting next to me – he left half-way through the show. Skip the movie — but definitely read the book.
