Because it was on . . .

Rated: R

Starring: the hunted Liv Tyler and the stalked Scott Speedman

Plot: Over the course of one night, a young couple is stalked and terrorized by three masked individuals who have invaded their isolated vacation home.

Tanya’s Verdict: If you have nothing better to do, then this movie may be an okay way to pass 90 minutes of spare time. It’s creepy with the details it withholds (the who and the why) and the specifics it shares (disturbing masks) – and the music plays a major role in the film’s sinister suspense. But that’s it. There are no twists and no surprises. Once finished, you’ll realize there’s nothing all that special about The Strangers. If a genuinely well-crafted and spooky home invasion flick is what you’re after, I suggest Funny Games (either the 1997 original or 2007 remake), You’re Next (2011) or The Invitation (2015).
