Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG-13
Starring: Meathead, Lenny, Mr. Lee Curtis, Seymour Skinner, the Nanny
Plot: This mockumentary follows the fictional U.K. band Spinal Tap as they get ready to tour the U.S.
Tanya’s Verdict: This is one of those old-fashioned comedies that doesn’t feel the need to rush the jokes or cheap out or cram hilarity into every scene. Instead, it is slowly paced – allowing the jokes to run their course organically – often based on character. So there may not be a ton of funny moments – but when they come – they are full force.
This Is Spinal Tap is a treasure hunt of celeb cameos – including Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby, Howard Hesseman and blink and you’ll miss him – Dana Carvey.
This groundbreaking comedy may have been slower than I remembered – but I’ll take great comedy no matter how sporadic over wall-to-wall half-hearted funniness any day of the week.
