A bit uneven and clunky – but not a total disaster.

Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*

Rated: MA

Starring: the hilarious gals of SNL

Plot: Six long-time friends reconnect with one another during a wine-tasting tour in Napa Valley.

Tanya’s Verdict: When this Netflix original first came out, I heard some comparisons to the 2004 hit Sideways. After having watched it, I have to say “I don’t think so“. They have wine in common but that’s about it. Sideways is a much more even-keeled, yet entertaining and funny movie.

Still, Wine Country isn’t a total disaster. There is so much truth in it – as I’m sure most women of a certain age can attest to. And it has its funny moments – a few times I actually laughed out loud.

But it’s unbalanced and the laughs are few and far between. It strives to be funny and dramatic and poignant from one moment to the next with plenty of clunk and awkwardness in between.

To me – some of the funniest moments are care of the hilarious and unapologetic Maya Rudolph. Just watch her facial expressions and her dance moves – and I dare you not to agree.
