This tasty meal was sent to me by Cousin Sarah and originates from Allrecipes. I made a few minor changes to it and served it up for Sunday dinner. Everyone gobbled it up except for one child – who said it was “just okay” and fiddled around with it before eventually eating it up. It was also great as leftovers. Enjoy.
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
1 egg
1/4 c. bread crumbs
1/4 t. ground black pepper
1/2 t. salt + 1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1 t. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. vegetable oil
1 medium onion, minced
2 T. flour
1 can beef broth
1 T. apple cider vinegar
In a large bowl, mix together beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 8 balls and flatten into patties.
Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Fry onions and patties over top in the oil until browned (about 4 minutes per side). Remove patties to a plate and keep warm.
Sprinkle flour over onions and drippings in pan. Stir with a fork, making sure to scrape bits of beef off the bottom. Gradually mix in the beef broth and vinegar and add 1/2 t. salt. Simmer and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes (until gravy thickens). Then turn heat low, return patties to pan and cover. Cook for another 15 minutes.
I served it alongside crispy, parm green beans. But mashed potatoes would be an excellent side to soak up the yummy gravy.
