Tanya’s Score: Good*
Rated: PG
Starring: a funny vampire; Scarjo; Rebel Wilson
Plot: In 1945 Germany, a young boy (Roman Griffin Davis) in a Nazi youth camp must come to terms with the fact his mother (Scarlett Johansson) has hidden a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic.
Tanya’s Verdict: This movie has gotten a lot of buzz. And it definitely is an interesting one with its genre-bending and at times straight up absurdity.
It’s kind of a comedy – slapstick even with Rebel Wilson as a Nazi and a silly Hitler fainting at the sight of blood. At a moment’s notice, it turns dark with people’s lifeless bodies hanging for all to see in town square.
It has a real Wes Anderson feel with the way the movie unfurls and the characters behave. And just as with many a Wes Anderson movie I have watched, I feel it was a tad gimmicky and “not so special” wrapped up in an intriguing idea.
