Tanya’s Score: Okay-and-a-half*
Rated: PG
Starring: Felicity Something; Something Hammer; Sam Waterston; Sam Waterston’s eyebrows
Plot: Inspired by the true story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg (Felicity Jones) and the landmark case she fought and won involving equal rights for men and women.
Tanya’s Verdict: I went into this movie knowing a little bit about Ruth Bader Ginsburg as well as her struggles and hard-fought wins toward equality – and left knowing a lot more. Even though, On The Basis Of Sex is a meh and somewhat forgettable film.
It started off strong (for me anyway) and ended the same way. But I got lost somewhere in the middle with a lot of legal mumbo jumbo that just didn’t make for a compelling nor riveting drama.
The story that unfolds within this film is a worthwhile and interesting one – and while I never expected a cinematic reinvention of the wheel – I was hopeful it would be somewhat more captivating than it was.
