This movie is a wild, interesting and unpredictable ride.

Every once in a while, I go to see a movie I know very little about and am very pleasantly surprised. That’s what happened in this case. Based on one of the scanty trailers I happened to catch, I assumed this would be a light and fluffy movie low on substance – I was wrong.

Tanya’s Score: Good-and-a-half*

Rated: PG

Starring: Mrs. Vogelcheck; Karen Walker; Pops; the wonderful Cate Blanchett

Plot: A series of events leads an eccentric woman (Blanchett) to reconnect with her passion for life.

Tanya’s Verdict: I didn’t know what to expect with this movie – and I was in for a real surprise. Despite the many familiar faces as well as big budget – Where’d You Go, Bernadette definitely had an indie film feel. Its plot is unpredictable; the story unfolds slowly and carefully; the characters feel real (now whether this comes from director Richard Linklater or author of the book it’s based on Maria Semple – I can’t say for sure as I haven’t read the book.)

For the most part, I enjoyed the wild ride provided to me by Where’d You Go, Bernadette. Although I did find it a bit uneven at times with a couple of lulls throughout. Also, the relationship between mother and teenage daughter just did not ring true to me.

Nevertheless, if you’re in the market for an unusual, interesting and extremely enjoyable  movie – then give Bernadette a try.
