Subtle, quirky and very funny.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: PG

Starring: a hilarious ensemble cast

Plot: Filmed in documentary-style, this movie focusses on a dog competition and the strange and unusual dog owners involved.

Tanya’s Verdict: Anyone tuning into this movie without any knowledge of it beforehand and with no recognition of the actors involved may get sucked in – believing they are actually watching a documentary about a national dog show. But that is not the case.

Yet another comical brain child from actor/director Christopher Guest [he also did Waiting For Guffman (1996) and A Mighty Wind (2003) in the same vain as Rob Reiner’s This Is Spinal Tap (1984)], I wasn’t sure if the subtle comedy would be lost on my kids. I’m happy to report we all thought it was funny.

What I enjoy about these films is that it’s not necessarily the writing or the actions that are comical so much as each of the characters in their own quirky way. This method of comedy is not always successful – but with this particular treasure trove of actors/comedians – it is!
