30 years have come and gone since this gem was first released and you can kinda/sorta tell.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Radio; Pops; Brenda Jenkins

Plot: Three boys grow up fast in a rough part of L.A. while navigating race, violence and love.

Tanya’s Verdict: I first saw this one at the theatre and I remember loving it. I also remembered a lot about it. And I was excited to re-watch Boyz n the Hood now on Netflix – almost 30 years later along with my girls.

So the good news is it pretty much holds up – and is a pretty good movie. The bad news is that it’s a bit dated – especially in terms of melodramatic music. It’s also not as sleek and smooth as in my memory. But it gets its point across loud and clear.

My girls enjoyed it too.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
