One of the best docs I’ve seen in a while. I was sad when it was done.

Tanya’s Score: Great*

Rated: 14A

Starring: an interesting, intelligent, pioneering and morbidly hilarious forensic psychiatrist named Dr. Dorothy Otnow Lewis

Plot: A documentary focussing on the research of forensic psychiatrist Dr. Dorothy Otnow Lewis and what she has discovered in terms of the psychology of violent murderers.

Tanya’s Verdict: This movie had me enthralled from the very beginning until the end credits rolled – and when it was done I wanted more. So interesting, so compelling – and what’s more – it made me re-examine preconceived beliefs I have surrounding capital punishment and I think I may have changed my mind. All because of this movie. And because of Dr. Lewis. From what I saw on film, she appears to be a congenial, open and honest, intelligent, fascinating and frankly quite hilarious individual.

Call me morbid, but I find this particular topic engrossing but I know it may not be everybody’s cup of tea. There is footage of interviews between Dr. Lewis and convicted murderers, men on death row and even an audio recording of an interview between her and the infamous Ted Bundy. There are also a few grotesque (but not too graphic) images of crime scenes.

If you think you can handle that – then I highly recommend this one. It’s streaming on Crave.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great
