Plot: Based on the true story of the 1970s Blaxploitation film star and rapping entrepreneur Rudy Ray Moore as he kickstarted his groundbreaking career.
Tanya’s Verdict: Just when I thought that Eddie Murphy had seen his better days gone by; just when I thought there was no movie role left for him where audiences would be rooting for his sweet and sympathetic character portrayal – along comes the Netflix original Dolemite is my Name.
Just as his character does in the film, it seems Murphy has the same shrewd instinct in turning his professional luck around.
The story is original and interesting, the movie is funny and bawdy and best of all Murphy’s title character – Rudy Ray Moore – is truly an inspiration.
