The movie is great; Julia Roberts is amazing.

Tanya’s Score: Great*

Rated: PG-13

Starring: Pretty Woman, Daddy Warbucks and another Aaron

Plot: Based on a true story, an uneducated, single mother of three (Julia Roberts) gets hired as a legal assistant and seeks justice for a small California town unknowingly poisoned by a local power company.

Tanya’s Verdict: Boy – I forgot just how awesome this movie is. My girls and I watched it and before it even started, they asked me for a quick plot rundown. They both pulled faces as in “that sounds boring” and I agreed but I told them that from what I remembered, it wasn’t and we should give it a chance.

Julia Roberts shines in the starring role – and in case you don’t remember – took home her first best actress Oscar in 2001 for it. Her character eschews the legal mumbo jumbo that often goes along with her job and opts instead to connect with real people. And just as her character did in the movie, she does the same within her acting role – taking what could be a very dry story and instead turning it into a compelling and emotional tale that flies by.

The real story here is Erin. Her character is an inspiration – reminding everyone how important tenacity and compassion are. Sometimes – even more important than education and sophistication.

All three of us loved it. If you haven’t seen it – I highly recommend it. And if you have – then watch it again. It’s worth it.

*Four score descriptions: Sh**; Okay; Good; Great

  1. Yes! I love this movie. I actually never saw it when it was popular. I went back to school about 5 years ago and became a paralegal and one of my instructors was blown away that I hadn’t seen it yet. I was not disappointed 🙂

  2. Omg!! I loved this movie!! Everytime I turn it on, my hubby leaves the room. .lol. She was so awesome going up against those lawyers who thought that education meant getting better results.
