Kevin Bacon in a speedo? Yes please.

Tanya’s Score: Okay*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Kevin Bacon in a speedo

Plot: Years after a young boy drowns at a summer camp, counsellors are murdered one by one as they prepare Camp Crystal Lake for a long-awaited re-opening.

Tanya’s Verdict: A couple of things right off the bat, there is a mild sex scene between two counsellors that also involves some nudity. If it weren’t for that scene, I’d say this is a pretty good horror movie for kids. It has the creepy setting and storyline, the eerie music, quite a bit of intense suspense and the spooky unseen villain. But then they had to throw in some sex and nudity to muck the whole thing up.

Yes – the movie is a bit dated – and for anyone out there eager to introduce their kids to the murderous, hockey-mask wearing, machete-wielding Jason Voorhees – you’ll need to delve deeper into the Friday The 13th sequels – I think he first appears in the 3rd instalment.

My girls may have laughed at the old-fashioned special effects, the 80s hair dos and retro clothing – but they both had to sleep in my bed with me after watching this vintage horror classic!
