Three creepy and unnerving stories within a story.

Tanya’s Score: Good*

Rated: 14A

Starring: Bilbo and some fellow Brits

Plot: A skeptical professor (Andy Nyman) is tasked with determining whether three separate supernatural experiences are legitimate by interviewing the people they affected.

Tanya’s Verdict: About 20 minutes into this movie, I realized the plot is based upon a stage play – a play I happened to see in Toronto back in 2011. So – much of the plot I already knew although some of it I had forgotten (or else they changed it up for the film). Part of this movie’s charm are the surprises in store – and so I felt slightly short-changed to this effect. But still, I really do love the story within a story element.

The jump scares as well as the scare scares feel authentic (and not so hokey) because of the attention paid to the story’s build-up. If your kids can handle a bit of scary stuff, I highly recommend Ghost Stories. It’s a good one.
